INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES

A. Materials

89 full bricks,

16 full queen closers,

2m Damp Proof Course (DPC) 230mm,
Enough pit sand.

Tools

1,2m spirit level,

1 bricklayer’s trowel,

1 steel square,

1 gauge rod, 1 builder’s bucket,
1 block brush, scrapper,

3m measuring tape, line and pins.

NB

1. Atleast 2m? working area per candidate.

2. The above time is inclusive of the setting out, dry bonding and clearing times.

3. Lower form Building Technology and Design students should assist candidates with preparations
and provision of materials during the examination.

4, Examination projects should only be destroyed 42 days after the release of results.

Using the plan and elevation provided, set out and build the dimensioned gate pier in English
Garden Wall Bond and the boundary wall in Stretcher Bond. Plumbing points are shown by
arrows. Use brick-on-edge coping as the last course on the pier and boundary wall. All external
joints should be recessed.
